AI tools for product strategy (2026)

Product managers use AI for strategy in five jobs: drafting, research synthesis, market research, prioritisation and workshops. ChatGPT and Claude draft; Dovetail synthesises interviews; Perplexity researches markets and competitors; Productboard and Jira Product Discovery prioritise; Miro runs the workshop. Scaffold does the legwork on the strategy itself, and the choices stay yours.

ChatGPT

Best for: Drafting strategy documents.

A general assistant for drafting and thinking out loud. Its deep research feature proposes a research plan you can edit, reads many web pages and files, and returns a report with citations you can download.

Where it stops: It drafts, but it keeps the conversation, not a record of which options you compared or why you chose one. Deep research use varies by plan, with allowances that reset every 30 days.

Claude

Best for: Drafting strategy documents.

A general assistant you can hand a task rather than a question. It works across your files, the web and the apps you connect, and returns drafts, decks or models you can edit. Projects keep the context between chats.

Where it stops: Usage limits reset on a rolling five-hour window, and paid plans add weekly limits. Research is not on the free plan. Like any chat, it keeps the conversation, not the decision.

Price read on 14 October 2026: Pro: US$20 a month, or US$17 a month billed annually. Free plan available. Sources: product page, pricing page.

Perplexity

Best for: Competitive and market research.

An answer engine for market and competitor questions. Deep Research makes a research plan, searches hundreds of sites and your own files, and cites each claim. Pro adds premium data sources such as PitchBook and Statista.

Where it stops: Deep Research is capped on Pro, and Perplexity gives no number. It answers questions; your strategy lives somewhere else.

Price read on 14 October 2026: Pro: US$17 a month billed annually. Free plan available. Sources: product page, pricing page.

Dovetail

Best for: Research synthesis.

A research repository. It transcribes and summarises customer interviews and research into highlights and themes, and its chat answers questions with evidence drawn from across your projects.

Where it stops: The free plan is one project with basic AI; advanced summaries, semantic search and agents are Enterprise-only. It makes sense of the evidence; the strategy built on it lives elsewhere.

Productboard

Best for: Prioritisation.

A product management platform built around customer feedback. Its Spark agent analyses the feedback in your workspace with citations, surfaces opportunities and drafts specs from the product context it holds.

Where it stops: Spark runs on credits, 500 per maker a month on Business; when they run out it stops until they reset or you buy more. Spark is still rolling out to existing workspaces.

Miro

Best for: Strategy frameworks and workshops.

A whiteboard for running strategy workshops. Its AI makes diagrams, tables and summaries and clusters sticky notes; agents and workflows turn what the workshop produced into plans and OKRs.

Where it stops: Starter includes 25 AI credits per member a month, and agents and workflows are only a limited trial below Business. Plans start at two members.

Price read on 14 October 2026: Starter: US$8 per member a month billed yearly. Business: US$20. Free plan available. Sources: product page, pricing page.

Jira Product Discovery

Best for: Prioritisation.

Atlassian's idea and prioritisation tool, next to Jira. Rovo AI summarises the ideas, insights and votes it holds, and helps distil feedback into insights, draft PRDs and review priorities.

Where it stops: AI is on the Premium plan only, and an admin has to turn it on. Atlassian says the quality of its output may vary.

Price read on 14 October 2026: AI needs Premium: US$26.25 per creator a month, billed monthly. Standard is US$10.50, without AI. Free for up to three creators, without AI. Sources: product page, pricing page.

Scaffold

Best for: getting to a product strategy you can defend.

Paste your product's link and drop in your documents. A free research run drafts your starting point; Scaffold suggests the approaches that suit your product's stage, such as Growth Paths or How You Compete; Strategic Options compares the directions you kept with changing nothing; and you validate the strategy narrative and your Now, Next, Later themes. It can find a choice; it never invents one.

Where it stops: Scaffold owns the judgement, never the backlog. It does not track roadmap delivery, it has no feedback inbox, and it does not generate code. The roadmap goes into whichever tool your team already uses.

Questions

Which AI tool is best for product strategy?

It depends on the job. For drafting and thinking out loud, a general assistant. For making sense of interviews and feedback, a research repository with AI. For prioritising, the AI inside the product management tool you already use. For the strategy itself, a tool that keeps the choices yours and the reasoning attached to them.

Is ChatGPT enough for product strategy work?

For drafting and thinking out loud, often yes. What a chat does not do is keep the record: which source a claim came from, which options you compared, and why you chose one. That matters when you have to defend the strategy months later.

How were these tools chosen?

They are the tools AI assistants name when asked about AI for product strategy, plus the product management tools product managers already use. Each is described by the job it does, from its maker's own pages, with prices read on 14 October 2026.
